Castilla - La Mancha
Located on the Central Plateau of the Iberian Peninsula, La Mancha encompasses 182 municipalities of Albacete, Ciudad Real, Cuenca and Toledo, and is the most extensive wine region in our country.
It enjoys an extreme continental climate, with great thermal oscillations and with variable rainfall, which makes this area very favorable for the optimal cultivation of the vine, which at least is remote to the Middle Ages, although it is believed to date from the time of the Empire Roman.
Its regulatory council was founded in 1973, although the first official recognition made of La Mancha wine dates back to 1932, which makes this wine area one of the oldest in Spain.
La Mancha has an ideal climate for the vine with low temperatures in winter and high temperatures in summer. A thermal severity whose contrasts with more than 3,000 hours of sun, make it a very privileged area for grape production.
Known for being the largest vineyard in the world, thanks to this great extension and the favorable climate, a multitude of white varieties can be grown in it: Airén, Viura or Macabeo, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo, Muscatel de Grarano Menudo, Riesling, Parellada, Viognier, Gewürztraminer, Pedro Ximénez and Torrontés in whites; and also many red varieties: Cencibel, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Moravia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah., Petit Verdot, Monastrell, Bobal, Graciano, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Pinot Noir and Mencía.
